Frederika Shawgo (’04) had her senior project, Raising Earl, accepted into the 8 th Annual East Lansing Children’s Film Festival. Earl was screened on Feb. 27 in South Kedzie Hall on the Michigan State University campus. Earl is the 6 minute and 15 second story of a family who finds and cares for an orphaned, infant squirrel until it is old enough to return to the wild. The films exhibited at the festival display various filmmaking techniques such as: stop-motion, claymation, scratch and finger paint animation, as well as computer-generated imaging. Genres include live action, documentary, shorts and feature length films.

VCD alumnus Ron Lewis (’03) has accepted a position as the miltimedia and game development instructor with ITT Technical Institute in Fort Wayne. Lewis teaches courses in 3-D animation and modeling, 2-D animation, character design and development, and game development. Lewis is currently seeking a school to pursue a master’s in animation and visual effects.

VCD alumnus Art Biro (‘78) is working as a wildlife artist and his work has appeared in various wildlife magazines including Florida Wildlife, Sporting Classics and Wildlife Art News. His first painting was published soon after he graduated in the Fort Wayne based publication, Bowhunter.

Among the winners in the Wassenberg Art Center’s 27 th annual October Photography Exhibit in Van Wert, Ohio, was VCD alumna Marjae O’Brien (’01). She placed first in the categories of special effects, still life and architecture. Marjae is employed by Creative Images Photography, New Haven, Indiana.

Jason Savage (’01) along with associates Alan Lohner and Cory Raff have started their own publishing company, Three Spirits Press, in Portland, Ore. Their first publication entitled “(fear not) Venture to inner peace” presents messages of higher inspiration in 60 dramatic double-page spreads – three sentences of revelatory text on each left facing page and a compelling duotone photograph on each right-hand page. All of the photographs were taken by Savage. More information is available at their web site www.threespiritspress.com
