Dr. O'Connell is a Professor of Nursing and the Director of the IPFW Behavioral Health and Family Studies Institute. She earned an A.S. in Mental Health from Purdue University, a B.S. in Nursing from Purdue University, and both an M.S. and PhD in Nursing from Indiana University.

She is responsible for assisting the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs in the budget planning and management process, maintaining personnel records for faculty and academic administration, and initiating reappointment and promotion and tenure reviews.
