Get out to Pink Out News Conference
(Fort Wayne, Jan. 27, 2009) -- Very few people can say they don't know someone who has been diagnosed with breast cancer. One out of every eight women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime, according to statistics from the American Cancer Society. Other than skin and lung cancer, it is the leading cause of cancer deaths among women and it's the most common form of cancer among women in the United States.
Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) is joining in the effort to raise awareness of and research into breast cancer with its second annual Pink Out event at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum, Saturday, Feb. 7. Details of the event will be announced at a news conference Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 1:30 p.m. in the Royal Dons Room of the Gates Center on the IPFW campus.
Tommy Bell, athletic director at IPFW, will discuss activities for the day and introduce representatives of the American Cancer Society of Fort Wayne and the Susan G. Komen Foundation, beneficiaries of this year's event. Sponsors of the event will also be announced.
