McCants, David A.

Dr. McCants came to IPFW in 1968 and retired as Associate Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Professor of Communication in 2002. Dr. McCants received his degrees from University of Richmond (B.A. 1958) and Northwestern University (M.A. 1959; Ph.D. 1964). He was a member of the IPFW faculty in theater, speech, communication, performed roles for Purdue Indiana Theatre, and held various administrative positions in the office of the Vice-Chancellor. He was acting and interim dean of several schools during his tenure. His publications covered a variety of topics, but his expertise was in rhetorical theory and the oratory of Patrick Henry. He was a charter member of the local chapter of Phi Kappa Phi. He was a member of the Twenty-Fifth Anniversary Committee and initiated the establishment of the local chapter of Phi Kappa Phi. He is well remembered for flawlessly reading the names of graduates at commencement ceremonies from 1975 to 1991.
