Stacy Pyle
Pyle, 20, is in her second year at IPFW where she is working towards an associate degree in radiography. She was named to the dean’s list in Spring 2007 and is in the process of becoming a student member of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists and the Indiana Society of Radiologic Technologists.
“I have not found a modality of diagnostic imaging that I do not find interesting, she says. “I like knowing that my work helps people figure out what’s going on with their health.”
During a rotation in mammography, Pyle had the opportunity to work at the Breast Diagnostic Center in Fort Wayne, which inspired her to volunteer with Francine’s Friends mobile mammography unit. She is also an active member of Campus Ministry at IPFW and regularly volunteers at Summitville Elementary School in Summitville, her hometown. In June 2005, she served as a U.S. student ambassador through the People to People Student Ambassadors Programs in which she traveled through Europe.
Pyle, who has always been interested in the health field, plans to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in medical imaging technology and one day hopes to work in a hospital as a radiologic technologist in both computed tomography and magnetic resonance. This scholarship, she notes, will help her complete her education and “jump right into helping people.”
Sasha Oster
Oster, 21, is in her third year at IPFW where she is in the Honors Program pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. She became interested in healthcare at a young age when she accompanied her ailing grandmother to the hospital.
“Now I get to give back to the doctors and nurses who helped my family, as well as to the community,” she says.
Oster, who has been named to the dean’s list six times, is involved with the Center for Academic Success and Advancement at IPFW where she leads weekly review sessions and provides one-on-one tutoring in medical surgical nursing and microbiology. She is also an active member in Campus Ministry.
As a senior in high school in 2004, she had the opportunity to work as a certified nurse’s aide at Miller’s Merry Manor, a nursing home in LaGrange, which further fueled her desire to work in the health field. She continues to volunteer at Miller’s and also works twice a week as a patient care tech in telemetry at Parkview Hospital.
Oster plans to use this scholarship money to pursue a Master of Science degree in nursing and plans to become a nurse practitioner in pediatrics for a hospital in the Fort Wayne area.
“I love having the opportunity to learn how to save people’s lives,” she says.
