Our mission is to improve the health of IPFW's faculty, staff, retirees, and spouses by promoting lifestyle changes through innovative prevention and at-risk programs, in addition to addressing the competing demands of the employee's professional and personal life.
All programs are offered to all IPFW employees and spouses/same-sex domestic partners.

Healthy Purdue 2009

It pays to get healthy

By working to improve or maintain your health in 2009, you can earn a $200 medical plan premium reduction in 2010. All you have to do is complete the wellness screening, HealthPath Questionnaire (HPQ), and four apples by November 20, 2009.

Benefit-eligible faculty, staff, and long term disability participants from West Lafayette, Calumet, Fort Wayne, and North Central campuses and their spouses/same-sex domestic partners may participate.

Events are advertised via campus mail and on the health and wellness webpage.

2009 Seasonal Flu Shots

Seasonal flu shots are available for free to all IPFW Faculty, Staff and Retirees, including their spouses/SSDP.

Thanks to IPSGA, we are able to offer 250 free seasonal flu shots to IPFW students.

On-Campus Health Awareness Programs
Healthy Purdue Red Apple Criteria

Health awareness programs are 45-60 minute, one-time sessions open to employees or community members. No pre-registration is required. Employees will participating in Healthy Purdue 2009 will receive one red apple for their attendance at any program between January 5-November 20, 2009.

On-Campus 6 Week Healthy Lifestyle Programs
Healthy Purdue Purple Apple Criteria

The last day to begin any 6-week Healthy Purdue programming is Monday, October 5
Programs are 6-12 weeks in length.

Be Fit Challenge Be Fit Challenge is available year-round. This 6 week fitness challenge is meant to help you strive for exercise on most if not all days of the week. This is a great challenge for someone looking to begin a fitness routine and could benefit from the accountability or for someone currently active to earn an apple for their hard work. You may log minutes of daily exercise or the number of steps you take each day, it is up to you! Return form to register.
Fitness Classes

Fitness classes are 6 weeks long. Register through Continuing Studies. Each week sign-in at the customer service desk of Hilliard Gates Sports Center. A variety of classes are sure to peak your interest!

Rape Aggression Defense: RAD

Taught by University Police, this class is open to women only. It will teach you realistic self-defense tactics with a focus on awareness, risk reduction, avoidance and progress to hands-on defense training. You must attend all four sessions to earn your purple Healthy Purdue apple. $5.00 to IPFW University employees and dependents. $25.00 to all community members.

Training Alternative

The training alternative can be used if you are training for an upcoming event, a 5K, 10K, half marathon, full or a triathlon. Challenge forms can be printed and returned to WU 234 for approval. If you need help with a training plan, let us know! Be sure to return your training form about a week before you begin your training!

Community Alternative

Are you participating in a 6-14 week class to benefit your health, physically, mentally or emotionally? We can approve your class to earn Healthy Purdue credit! Conact Jen Roherty or Judy Tillapaugh today!

Weight Watchers At IPFW

The official Weight Watchers is here on campus. Meetings are held every Wednesday from noon-1 p.m. in Kettler Hall, room 146. Meetings are 40-60 minutes in length and include a weigh-in and educational meeting.

The cost for a 12-week series is $144 per person. IPFW will accept checks, Visa, Mastercard, and Discover.

Employee Reimbursement: If you attend 11 out of the 12 classes, you will receive your 2nd $72 payment back at the end of the 12-week session. A purple apple will also be awarded upon completion of 11 of 12 meetings. At registration, two payments of $72.00 will be taken. $72.00 will immediately be charged to you and the second half of payment will be held until the end of the session. The second payment will be returned to the employee if they completed 11 of 12 weekly meetings.

Weight Watchers General Information:

  • All weigh-ins are private
  • Information provided is the same program materials and topics that are offered in traditional Weight Watchers meetings
  • Weight Waters does not require packaged foods
  • All leaders are Lifetime members of Weight Watchers who have successfully lost and maintained their weight following the Weight Watchers plan
  • At-Work members who miss their At-Work meeting may attend a traditional meeting within the Franchise during the same calendar week at no cost
  • Prorated refunds are given only for a member reaching Lifetime Membership, pregnancy or employment has been terminated

Being the best you can be, day-by-day, can feel so good. The more personal health awareness, knowledge, skills, and support one has, the more health promotion, disease prevention, and health care cost savings are possible. Off-Campus Community Programs and Events

Take advantage of the great healthy programming off-campus! If you feel that your participation at a community event may qualify for a Healthy Purdue criteria, contact Judy at 260-481-6477 to get appropriate approval forms before attending. Programs should be through a reputable community health source. Community Alternative programming can be used for a red or purple Healthy Purdue apple.
