Dr. John Wellington and the Achievements of the Doermer School of Business Honored

As many of you are aware, Dean John Wellington has stepped out of the Dean’s position with the Doermer School of Business and Management Sciences effective July 1, 2008.   He is currently on sabbatical leave for the 2008-2009 academic year and will return to the school as a tenured full professor of management in the fall of 2009 as he begins the Purdue transition to retirement program.

Dean Wellington came to IPFW in 2000 from Capital University in Columbus Ohio; he was immediately consumed with the reaffirmation of the school’s accreditation through AACSB-International.  His vision of stakeholder inclusiveness led to the successful reaffirmation decision in December 2000.   His legacy is marked by an outreach of the school into the Northeast Indiana community.  His commitment to regional economic development was formally institutionalized in the school’s newest mission statement.  Business students are now engaged in experiential learning opportunities, the Curriculum Connection, intercollegiate competitions, and international travel.  In the fall of 2007, Dean Wellington led the school through another successful reaffirmation of AACSB accreditation.

On Friday September, 5 2008, the faculty and staff of the Doermer School of Business and Management Sciences celebrated the many recent accomplishments of the school under Dean Wellington’s vision and leadership.  John’s three adult children were present to witness the presentation of numerous gifts (including poetry) as the faculty and staff of the school sought to say “Thank you for a job well done”.
