Two IPFW CPA Students Score in Indiana Top 10

Two recent Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) accounting graduates, Austin Pitzer and Sarah Miller, are among Indiana's top 10 scorers for 2007 on the Uniform CPA (Certified Public Accountant) Examination, according to the Indiana CPA Society.

Approximately 325 CPA candidates passed the CPA exam in Indiana in 2007. To be recognized as a top 10 scorer, each candidate is required to pass all four parts of the exam on the first attempt. While the exam is given every year through December 31, the Top 10 scorers generally aren't announced for several months, due to the rigorous and lengthy process of grading, compiling, and disseminating results.

"At least in recent history, I believe that this is the first time we have had two students in the top 10," said Kathy Pollock, chair of the Department of Accounting and Finance. "I am very proud of Austin and Sarah. We have a great department with dedicated students and faculty working toward a common goal of developing outstanding accounting professionals."

Both Pitzer and Miller have joined the Ernst & Young public accounting firm in Fort Wayne. Erica Knuth, Partner at Ernst & Young, said, "This is a great accomplishment for both Sarah and Austin and a direct reflection of their hard work and dedication to becoming respected professionals and CPAs. This is also a great reflection on the education and mentoring they each received while earning their degrees at IPFW. Ernst & Young is pleased to have two such dedicated and talented professionals working for us in the Fort Wayne office."
