Career Counseling Sessions
Whether you’re an IPFW student or alumnus/a, an Indiana University or Purdue University alumnus/a, or a member of the community, you have access to career counseling at Career Services. Some of the topics that can be addressed in career counseling include:
- Exploring your interests, skills, and values
- Investigating careers and employers
- Gaining relevant experience through internships, jobs, or volunteer work
- Preparing for employment through résumé and cover letter critiques and mock interviews
- Searching for a job
Mock Interviews
If you are anxious about the interviewing process or just want to refine your skills, arrange a mock interview or videotaped mock interview with a career counselor. You will receive valuable feedback that will help you pinpoint your strengths and weaknesses.
Informational Interviewing
Informational interviewing is an effective method for uncovering the “hidden” 75 to 80 percent of the job market. The purpose of an informational interview is to expand your knowledge about a particular field by talking to people who are actually doing that work. Career Services and Alumni Relations work together to help IPFW students get in contact with alumni to conduct informational interviews. Career Library
More than 200 resources are available in Career Services to assist you in your career journey. Major-related information, job search, résumé writing, and industry information books are available. You can borrow resources for up to one week with a valid university ID.
Career Assessments
Several career assessments are available to help you learn about your personality, measured interests, and preferences for various work environments. These assessments can help you understand how your interests, skills, and work values relate to different occupations. A meeting with a career counselor will help you determine which assessments and resources are right for you.
